11 Questions for... Julia Weiskönig
11 Questions for... Julia Weiskönig
I'm Julia Weiskönig, freelance graphic designer/illustrator and jewelry designer. I'm always on the lookout for things that inspire me, sometimes here and sometimes there, but always preferably in nature. The search drives me past the mountains and lakes in the Munich area, on to France, my new second home, past lavender fields and directly to Portugal to the southwestern end of Europe, where my mind comes to rest. From there with the wind to all the wonderful places on earth. I am always accompanied by a solid surf and yoga equipment, because after all land and water must be explored.
02. What did you want to become when you were little and why?
Definitely professional athlete! But when no one discovered me, I focused on my creative streak and wanted to become a make-up artist for horror movies and elaborate historical films.
"As in all things, creativity needs its counterpart to be recognized."
03. What do you like about your work or what makes it special?
That I am free. Free in the medium with which I express myself. Free to choose the place where I want to be creative and whether during the day or at night.
04. ...and what not at all?
Well, you can't be a security fanatic. But I like to live in the here and now and enjoy the moment. I love what I do and hope I can keep doing it until the end.
05. What is your most important work tool?
Normally I would say my hands, because they usually implement my ideas. It could also be my eyes, because they see all the beautiful things I encounter. But I also smell, taste and feel them, which is why I see my heart as the most important factor in my work. What touches my heart flows into my creation.
06. What is the most beautiful thing about your workplace?
That it can be anywhere. Portugal, France, Indonesia, Munich or currently a small village on Lake Starnberg.
07. Where do you get your ideas from? What inspires you?
The wind that caresses my cheek and leaves goosebumps. The sea that rises loudly only to retreat quietly. The sun tickling the salt on the back of my neck as I paddle against the current. The neon-blue of the jellyfish, which like me, drift on the sea to wait for the next wave, which carries them to the beach.
08. What went really wrong last year?
Unfortunately, most of the time everything goes wrong rather than right, but right right would be boring and right wrong doesn't happen after all!
09. What is your next goal? Which projects are coming up?
To set up my own small goldsmith shop in my current home and implement a new small collection.
10. What creative input does Munich, the city you live and work in, give you?
Munich gives me a home first of all because most of my family and friends live here. I need this place to come to rest and to process and visualize all the impressions I have gained. But here is also the everyday life with all its duties, which makes the "artist" back to the "craftsman". Which also does commissioned work to pay his bills. I think that this is an important antipole to be free creative again. As in all things, creativity also needs its counterpart to be recognized
