The 500-square-meter space serves as the French real estate group Altarea's in-house restaurant - but equally as a co-working space, thanks to clever partitioning elements like the sliding oak panels and clever furnishings. Ludovic Desmons

Restüro? Bürant? Konflounge? This special place is and can be many things: in the heart of Paris, the young architecture firm Delordinaire has designed a multifunctional space that is used as a restaurant, office, lounge and conference area. At the headquarters of one of France's largest real estate developers, a 500-square-meter space was created on the first floor that can be adapted to the individual needs of its users at any time.

Centered banquettes made of concrete and plant containers can be complemented with newly interpreted, reduced bistro tables.

Client Altarea predicted two years ago how office spaces will be redefined: "An office building is no longer merely a place where the output of individuals is gathered, a place where each individual works in isolation at his or her assigned table or behind an office door. But rather a place of encounter and exchange, of bringing together know-how and expertise. An office building must be able to adapt to its different uses. Companies come and go; tasks and staffing levels change. Nowadays, an office building is characterized by structures that allow reversible uses of space." In the new building on Rue de Richelieu, this transformative philosophy of what the future of work should look like in terms of construction was implemented in a congenial manner - downright clairvoyantly, because the highly flexible multipurpose areas that have now been created also prove themselves under the strict spacing rules currently required in the pandemic.

"An office building is no longer just a place where the output of individuals is gathered. It becomes a place of meeting and exchange, of bringing together know-how and expertise."
