Nanimarquina presents a carpet collection made of hemp
Nanimarquina has collaborated with the likes of Jaime Hayon and the Bourroullec brothers. Now the carpet manufacturer is launching a more restrained collection: the new series by carpet designer Nani Marquina is made of 100 percent hemp, a sustainable all-rounder. It is produced in India and Pakistan - countries known for their outstanding carpet quality. There, Nanimarquina combines local knotting techniques with innovative materials.
The "Herb" collection is first spun into yarn by hand and then also hand-knotted into a rug. This non-machine process results in small imperfections in the finished texture. As a result, the monochrome textiles are small one-of-a-kind pieces in their monochromatic color palette.
Natural Herb In what is now China, hemp has been used for textiles for nearly 6000 years. Over time, cotton prevailed and hemp was driven from the scene. Until today, the robust material is an exotic among textiles.
Black Herb Hemp is antibacterial, moth resistant and flame retardant. In addition to these user-friendly advantages, it also has a very good ecological balance, since hardly any pesticides would have to be used for cultivation and the plant produces a lot of biomass in a very short time.
